"One of the best Cricketers, as well as Footballers, at Charterhouse, GO Smith has fully realised at Oxford the promise of his school days in both games. A capital player as a boy, he graduated with equal distinction at the University, which he represented during his residence up to, and including, last season. Securing his International Cap against Ireland in 1893, he represented England against Wales last season. For Oxford University he has done particularly good service, and though a trifle light as a centre he has not many superiors, among amateurs, at all events. Very clever with his feet, he feeds his wings well, and being himself a sure shot, is a very dangerous man when near goal. As a Cricketer he has also a high reputation, and this year was fortunate enough to secure his blue at Oxford."
